Whether you love trying new recipes, baking with your kids, preparing homemade gifts, or simply filling your home with the smell of something delicious, fall and winter are the perfect seasons to get baking.

And let’s be honest… sometimes the best part of baking isn’t even eating the treats. It’s the cozy atmosphere, the memories made in the kitchen, and having an excuse to bring out all those fun baking gadgets!

In this post, we’re sharing fun baking facts, upcoming holiday baking inspiration, and some popular baking tools and supplies to make your kitchen ready for the season.

Fall Is the Perfect Time for Baking!

Fall is often considered the beginning of baking season, and for good reason! Cooler temperatures make turning on the oven a little more appealing, and seasonal ingredients like apples, pumpkins, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cranberries provide endless recipe inspiration.

Fall baking is the perfect way to bring people together! It brings people together. Baking is a fun activity for families, friends, and kids of all ages.

It makes your home feel cozy. There’s nothing quite like the smell of cinnamon, vanilla, and fresh cookies filling the house.

It’s a great holiday tradition. Homemade treats make wonderful gifts for neighbors, teachers, friends, and family.

It’s a chance to get creative. Try new recipes, decorate cookies, or create your own holiday dessert traditions.

Did You Know??

Baking is more than mixing ingredients and putting something in the oven. There is actually a lot of science and history behind some of our favorite treats!

1. Chocolate chip cookies were invented by accident!

Chocolate chip cookies were created in the 1930s by Ruth Wakefield at the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts. She added chopped chocolate to cookie dough, and a classic American favorite was born!

2. Baking soda and baking powder aren’t the same thing.

Both help baked goods rise, but they work differently. Baking soda needs an acidic ingredient to activate, while baking powder already contains an acid.

3. Vanilla is one of the most popular baking flavors in the world.

Vanilla comes from orchids! The vanilla bean is actually the fruit of the vanilla orchid plant.

4. The first pumpkin pies looked very different.

Early pumpkin pie recipes were not quite like the smooth, sweet pies we enjoy today. Some early versions used hollowed out pumpkins filled with milk, spices, and other ingredients before baking.

5. The word “dessert” comes from the French word desservir, meaning “to clear the table.” Dessert was traditionally served after the main meal had been cleared!

6. The first cupcakes were baked in individual cups!

The name “cupcake” has two possible origins. Early recipes measured ingredients by the cup, while another explanation comes from cakes being baked in small individual cups or pottery containers. Either way, cupcakes have been a favorite treat for generations!
